Acupuncture

Am I a good candidate for acupuncture?

The medical literature shows acupuncture’s effect on nearly every biophysical system in the body. I’ve seen patients suffering from a wide variety of problems respond to acupuncture treatment when nothing else has worked.

So, for most people, yes, acupuncture is something you should explore.

Why is a consultation necessary?

We’re all unique, have different needs, and considerations when it comes to our health. Many people are unsure of how acupuncture can help them or if acupuncture can address the problem they are facing. At the consultation we review your case, answer any questions, and then give you our best recommendation for a treatment program.

We’ll recommend the best-suited therapies for your condition, treatment frequency, expected results and cost. Not everyone is a good candidate for our acupuncture programs, and we are happy to refer out if need be. After many years in practice, we have found that an initial consultation sets the stage for a more effective, more personalized healing journey that yields better results.

How many acupuncture treatments will I need?

The number of treatments needed differs from person to person. For complex or long-standing conditions, two to four treatments a week for several months may be recommended. For acute problems, usually fewer visits are required, and for health maintenance, we recommend 1-2 monthly tune ups. We discuss this more in-depth during your initial consultation. Acupuncture treatments build upon themselves, so the frequency and consistency of treatment, as well as patience, is vital to the improvement of your condition.

Does acupuncture hurt?

No. It’s very comfortable. Most people end up taking a nap during their treatment and leave feeling refreshed and relaxed.

There are certain sensations associated with the therapeutic effects of acupuncture including a slight dull sensation, heaviness, tingling or electricity. Most patients hardly feel any discomfort at all.

Is acupuncture safe?

Pamela Purser, AP, L.Ac. offers Acupuncture, Herbal, Moxibustion, Cupping in Navarre, FL  YES! Acupuncture is very safe when practiced by a Licensed Acupuncture Physician. Licensed Acupuncture Physicians receive over 3,500 hours of extensive training. It is important to find a practitioner who is a licensed Acupuncture Physician that knows the intricate system of Chinese medicine and can give you an extensive diagnosis and thorough treatment.

Acupuncture needles are extremely safe, because they are pre-sterilized, individually packaged, and disposable. Every practitioner receives extensive training in anatomy so as to avoid accidentally inserting a needle in a place that can cause damage.

What should I expect on my first visit?

Once you’ve had your initial consultation and are ready to jump in and begin your customized treatment plan, we’ll schedule your first acupuncture treatment – often the same day as your consultation. For your treatments, be sure to wear loose comfortable clothing and eat something at least one hour beforehand. Appointments last 30-45 minutes. During the acupuncture treatment, the needles are retained for about 15-30 minutes. Most patients become deeply relaxed or even fall asleep for a restorative power nap. The benefits of acupuncture often start immediately. After your first treatment, you may experience an excellent night of sleep, higher energy, more focus, less stress and a reduction in pain.

How much does it cost?

Cost is dependent upon several factors, including how long you have had the condition(s) you are seeking treatment for, how many symptoms you have, and the type(s) and amount of treatments recommended to give you optimal results. Each patient is seen as a unique individual, and each treatment program is customized to fit your healthcare needs. After your initial evaluation, Acupuncture Physician will give you detailed pricing information with detailed treatments plan.

How does Acupuncture work?

Acupuncture is a physical medicine that works with groups of blood vessels to improve blood flow in the body. If there is an obstruction of blood flow to a particular area of the body, that area of the body will be negatively affected, resulting in disease or malfunction. Acupunctures stimulates the body’s only way to heal – through blood flow. The blood contains all of the essential healing ingredients that the body can possibly produce. All of the analgesics (natural pain killers) of the body, anti-inflammatories, hormones, and oxygen are contained in the blood.

Does insurance cover acupuncture?

Some insurance companies will cover acupuncture services for specific conditions. We do not directly bill your insurance company; however, we are happy to provide you with detailed statements including insurance codes (called a superbill) that you can submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement. Please call your insurance company to check if you are covered for this service.
